A Pneumatic Brake is a braking system that utilizes compressed air to generate the force required to slow down or stop a vehicle or machinery. Pneumatic brakes are widely used in heavy-duty applications, such as in commercial vehicles (trucks, buses), industrial machinery, and rail systems, where high braking force is necessary.

1. Compressor:

   • The compressor generates compressed air, which is stored in air tanks for later use. It is the power source for the pneumatic brake system.

2. Air Tanks:

   • These tanks store the compressed air that powers the brake system. They ensure there is enough air supply for consistent braking action.

3. Brake Chamber:

   • A brake chamber contains a diaphragm that is pushed by the pressurized air. When air is applied, the diaphragm moves and actuates the braking mechanism.

4. Control Valves:

   • These valves control the flow of compressed air to the brake chambers, determining the amount of force applied to the brake system.

5. Brake Shoes or Pads:

   • In drum brake systems, the brake shoes press against the inside of the drum to create friction and slow the vehicle. In disc brake systems, air pressure applies force to the brake pads, pressing them against the rotor to create friction.

6. Actuators:

   • Actuators convert the air pressure into mechanical force that engages the brake pads or shoes.

7. Pipes and Hoses:

   • These connect the various components of the system and deliver compressed air where needed.

1. When the driver presses the brake pedal, a signal is sent to the control valve.

2. The control valve releases compressed air from the air tanks into the brake chambers.

3. The pressure from the air moves the diaphragm in the brake chamber, which then pushes the brake shoes or pads onto the braking surface (drum or disc).
